3 Factors to Look for in a College Other Than Its Name
Choosing a college is one of the most crucial decisions a person has to make, at one point in his life. And in truth, it’s not only the student’s decision, but also of his parents. To enjoy waking up in the morning and studying at night, consider these three factors in a college other than the name of the institution.
1. Environment.
Most students prefer studying in places that are conducive and comfortable to read books, write notes, and make use of the materials provided to them. And this means that the physical environment of the college plays an important role when making a decision. Remember that you will be living and breathing here for four or five years. So, if you have the luxury of time, make sure you visit the campuses you have in mind. Check out structure of the school. Does it feel like home? If yes, that’s a good sign. You may also want to see the places near the campus. Are there nearby libraries, shopping malls, museums, food parks, and the like?
2. Financial expenses.
Again, choosing a college is not the sole decision of the student. The opinion of the parents also matter. After all, it will be them who will pay for your tuition fee and other school expenses, except if you have qualified for a scholarship program. These financial considerations include college costs, application fees, and miscellaneous fees. In college, you will be required to buy textbooks. If you are living in a dormitory, you will need to pay for the rental fees. Furthermore, there are particular college courses that demand laboratory equipment and extracurricular activities. And even if you graduate, you still have to pay graduation fees.
3. Possible classmates.
College is supposed to be fun and you want to create memories with people you want to enjoy spending time with. It’s just natural to hope that you and your friends will attend the same college, but sometimes this isn’t the case. You have different dreams and preferences and their choice of school may be different from yours. Still, there’s no harm in convincing your friends. But you need to be open-minded that your possible classmates may be coming from different cities, provinces, or even other countries.
